A partner public owners can rely on

Public owners carry a responsibility private developers do not: every dollar is taxpayer money and every project will be in service for decades. Vivid Engineering Group works with municipalities, counties, airports, water and stormwater utilities, and federal agencies to make sure the facilities they build are constructed to the standard they were designed to — and that the record proves it. From a flood-mitigation facility in a city park to an on-call environmental contract at an international airport, our role is the same: independent verification the owner can stand behind.

Much of our public-sector work comes through on-call and task-order agreements, where an agency needs a firm that can mobilize a certified inspector or pull a sample on short notice and bill it cleanly against the contract. We are set up for that. Our three Colorado offices and accredited laboratories let us respond quickly along the Front Range and the Arkansas Valley, and our staff are experienced with the documentation, procurement, and reporting requirements that come with public funding, including federally funded work.

Our geotechnical engineers support public facilities, utility corridors, and street programs with subsurface investigations and foundation and pavement recommendations, and our environmental group provides site assessments, materials management plans, and compliance monitoring for agencies managing their own land and infrastructure.

    DENVer On-Call Environmental Testing

Denver International Airport, 8500 Peña Boulevard, Denver, CO 80249

Denver International Airport is in the middle of a sustained building program — terminal and concourse renovations, new ground transportation facilities, and upgrades to utility vaults and operations buildings — nearly all of it inside secured, high-traffic areas that never close. Before any of that work can begin, the City and County of Denver needs to know what is in the walls, ceilings, and soils that construction will disturb.

Vivid Engineering provides ongoing environmental testing and assessment at DEN under an on-call contract with the City and County of Denver. Our work has included asbestos and mold testing, Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, lead-based paint inspections, industrial hygiene consulting, and personal exposure air monitoring for projects such as the former toll plaza on Peña Boulevard, the Ground Transportation Facility, terminal stairwells, Xcel vaults in several concourses, and the entire Airport Operations Building. We sample and test for asbestos in buildings and soils, analyze lead-based paint, and design abatement or containment methods when needed — coordinating every entry through secured areas so airport operations are never disrupted.

Garden Of The Gods Flood Mitigation Facility

Garden of the Gods Road at Camp Creek, Colorado Springs, CO 80904

After the 2012 Waldo Canyon Fire burned much of the Camp Creek watershed, storm runoff into the neighborhoods below Garden of the Gods became a serious flood risk. The City of Colorado Springs' answer was a stormwater detention and sediment collection facility in the park's northeast corner, funded through FEMA's Hazard Mitigation Program with state and city dollars. Built by Mortenson Construction, the $7.8 million facility includes a 27-foot earthen embankment, roughly 170 acre-feet of storage, a 365-foot roller-compacted concrete spillway, an 8-by-6-foot reinforced concrete outlet box, and a realigned grouted-boulder channel to carry Camp Creek — about 185,000 cubic yards of earthwork in all. Completed in December 2020, the facility helps protect more than 100 properties along the 31st Street corridor.

Vivid Engineering provided construction engineering, inspection, and materials testing for the project, working with Mortenson and the City to verify the quality of earthwork, compacted embankment, concrete, and grouted boulder construction — the elements the facility's long-term flood resilience depends on.
