Ridgegate Parkway Widening

Transportation

Widening a corridor for a growing Lone Tree.

RidgeGate Parkway is the spine of Lone Tree’s fast-growing RidgeGate development, linking I-25 and the Lone Tree City Center to the neighborhoods east of the interstate. To keep pace with that growth, the RidgeGate Parkway Widening Project expanded the corridor between I-25 and Meridian Village Parkway to add two through-lanes in each direction, including a split-alignment section, new bridges over Badger Gulch and Happy Canyon Creek, 8-foot pedestrian sidewalks, and a 12-foot cycle track running the length of the project.

Partnering with Hamilton, Vivid Engineering provided construction field and laboratory materials testing for soils, concrete, and asphalt throughout the project. Our technicians tested embankment and backfill compaction, structural concrete for the new bridges, and asphalt paving as the corridor was built out, verifying that every element met the project’s quality standards and giving the contractor results on the schedule the work demanded.

Military Access, Mobility & Safety Improvement Project

South Academy Boulevard widening and Pikes Peak region corridors, El Paso County, CO

The Military Access, Mobility & Safety Improvement Project (MAMSIP) is a $161 million, five-year program to improve the corridors connecting Fort Carson, Peterson Space Force Base, Schriever Space Force Base, and Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Station — funded by CDOT, El Paso County, the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority, and an $18.35 million federal BUILD grant. Built by SEMA Construction from June 2021 to July 2026, the program delivered safety improvements and a jug-handle intersection on CO 94; a full rebuild of Charter Oak Ranch Road with a new roundabout at Santa Fe Avenue; 7.5 miles of I-25 work between South Academy Boulevard and Fountain, including two replacement bridges, a concrete overlay, and a full-length median barrier; and finally the widening of South Academy Boulevard from two to three lanes in each direction, with bridge widening over Fountain Creek, US 85/87, and Bradley Road.

Vivid Engineering served as the lead materials quality assurance testing firm for the program, overseeing all materials documentation, field testing, and inspection — including the South Academy Boulevard widening in El Paso County — to verify that every element met CDOT and FHWA standards for safety and durability.

    Circle Drive Bridges Replacement Project

Circle Drive, Janitell Road to Monterey Road, Colorado Springs, CO

Four bridges built in 1963 carry South Circle Drive more than 60 feet above Fountain Creek, the BNSF Railway, Las Vegas Street, Hancock Expressway, and the Pikes Peak Greenway Trail — a critical link between I-25 and southeast Colorado Springs. After a life-cycle cost analysis, the City chose full replacement over rehabilitation. The PPRTA-funded Circle Drive Bridges Replacement Project, built by SEMA Construction, began in fall 2023 and is replacing all four 800-foot structures in phases: new eastbound bridges first, alongside the originals, then new westbound bridges once traffic shifts — all while keeping two lanes open in each direction. The project also adds a sidewalk connection to the Greenway Trail and bike and pedestrian improvements on Hancock Expressway.

Vivid Engineering leads quality assurance testing and supports the inspection team for the project, testing structural concrete, soils and backfill, and asphalt through each construction phase so that the new bridges meet City and CDOT standards for the next 60 years.

    Academy Boulevard Improvements

South Academy Boulevard, Bijou Street to Airport Road, Colorado Springs, CO

South Academy Boulevard is one of Colorado Springs' hardest-working arterials, and decades of heavy traffic had left its pavement, concrete, and drainage in poor condition. The City's $62.5 million South Academy Boulevard Improvements Project, funded through the voter-approved Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority, is rebuilding 18 lane miles in two segments — Bijou Street to Airport Road, and East Fountain Boulevard to Jet Wing Drive. The work replaces worn pavement and base, rebuilds curb and gutter, adds a multi-use path, relocates Colorado Springs Utilities water and wastewater lines, and installs new inlets, manholes, and storm pipe to end chronic standing water.

Vivid Engineering leads quality assurance testing and is part of the inspection team for the project. Our technicians sample and test soils, aggregate base, concrete, and asphalt as each phase goes in, keeping results in the contractor's hands so work can keep moving through a corridor that stays open to traffic throughout construction. Segment 1 wrapped up in 2024, with the southern segment scheduled for completion in 2026.
